Cement and other ingredients are mixed to make mortar or concrete. Construction chemicals may be blended with powder ingredients or added to the mix; where they are used depends on the product type.

Stages where chemicals enter the process
In ready-mixed dry mortar production, powder additives are blended with cement and other dry ingredients. Concrete mixes may use plasticisers, set retarders or waterproofing additives; air entering the mix during mixing is also considered.
